Mr. Snout is a character in The Spook's Apprentice and The Spook's Seventh Apprentice.
Biography[]
The Spook's Seventh Apprentice[]
Snout was a pig farmer from Topley. He and his son traveled the County, slaughtering pigs. One day, he and his son visited a farm, called Sanderson's Farm. They spent the night nearby, where Snout was attacked by a witch and knocked unconscious while he slept. His son was so scared and didn’t help him, but instead traveled to Chipenden to get the help of John Gregory, the local spook, but he was away on business, so Peter got the help of John’s apprentice, Will Johnson. As the two of them traveled to Burnley, to get the help of John Gregory, they passed through Blackburn, the village next to Sanderson's Farm. Peter, scared for his father, recklessly ran down to the farm to see him. Will followed after him, and as he entered the barn, fell under the illusions of the pig witch. The witch was able to turn Peter into a pig, but being a seventh son of a seventh son, he was able detect the witch's illusions and break them. The witch still managed to transform Will into a pig, so Will and Peter stayed in that form for several days, until the pig witch returned. She used a spider like creature to rip three nearby pigs to shreds, and promised she would return for Will and Peter that night. Will broke the both of their illusions and they escaped the farm, after Will saw Mr. Snouts corpse.
The Spook's Apprentice[]
He traveled to the Ward farm to slaughter five pigs during Tom Ward and Alice Deane’s stay at the farm. After he had killed them all, he knocked Jack Ward unconscious and took his daughter. He had been possessed by Mother Malkin. Alice ran at Snout and knocked him over, which gave Tom enough time to throw salt and iron at him and cause Mother Malkin to come out of his body. He later traveled home, confused as to what happened.
Note[]
- It's unclear what Snout's fate is, as in The Spook's Apprentice, he is alive, which is set after The Spook's Seventh Apprentice, in which he is dead.
